Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, Burgess Meredith Directed By Dan Curtis IMDB I took a tour of the Dunsmuir-Hellman Historic Estate where this was filmed last weekend in Oakland California. The Mansion has been in films like this film Burnt Offerings and Phantasm. I highly recommended taking one of their tours if you are ever in the area. http://www.dunsmuir.org/ The Mansion Today:

Much to much delight, i stumbled upon a yet another amazing image blog. Ephemera Assemblyman is an image collectors dream come true. I still have yet to really dive in and sift through all it's glory, but these haunting images in particular made me think of the Obscure Hollow. More information about the artist Manuel Orazi and the Calendrier Magique may be found here.
The second Bette Davis selection in celebration of her birthday this month is Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte. I don't believe it's possible for me to have an absolute favorite Bette Davis movie, but this is definitely the one I've seen the most. Perhaps because it's southern gothic at it's best and practically filmed in my own backyard. Most of the film is shot on location at Houmas House Plantation, about twenty minutes south of Baton Rouge. The entire cast is outstanding, especially Agnes Moorehead as Vlema. And for a yankee broad from Boston, Bette does a damn fine South Louisiana accent. This movie's got blackmail, murder, insanity, dimemberment, and that's just in the first twenty minutes.
Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Joseph Cotton, Agnes Moorehead, Mary Astor, Bruce Dern IMDB
I have two Bette Davis selections for you enjoyment in celebration of her birthday this month. The first being The Nanny, an early Hammer Film. Honestly, I think this family could drive anyone to murder. And you always know your in for a special treat when Pamela Franklin pops on the screen.
Bette Davis, Wendy Craig, Jill Bennett, James Villiers, William Dix, Pamela Franklin IMDB

Now for the fifth and final Lovecraft film selection. The Haunted Palace is billed as an Edgar Allen Poe adaptation. There are a few Poe recitations, but it's really based on Lovecraft's novella, "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward".
